I am originally from Racine, WI, moved to Sheboygan in 2007. Have been drawing and painting as long as I can remember. Graduated from Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in 1993 and have been working as a Graphic Designer ever since. In January 2016 I got the desire to get back into drawing and painting and to do something more with those skills. My art work is heavily influenced by visual observation of light and color, the influence of the fantastic which came from reading a lot of science fiction, and a love for the structure found in Renaissance art. Recently I have been exploring the work of Leonardo to gain a greater skill at drawing and a greater understanding of his technique, and have also attempted to achieve a more photographic realism. I work mainly with acrylics on canvas, but have done a lot of oil paintings and intend to explore other media as well. My preference for acrylics is due to their ability to dry faster and being safe to use in the winter when we can’t open windows. I usually use acrylics in the same way that I use oils, painting with the traditional method of glazing colors over a toned canvas and drawing. I do like to experiment with techniques I’ve never tried before. I prefer realism to abstraction, but I explore abstraction as pure design and how it relates to the creation of a more realistic work.
